HealthFirst Bluegrass Family Health Clinics

Next Project

HealthFirst Bluegrass' second clinic is located in the historic East End neighborhood of Lexington.

Champlin | EOP designed both the first HealthFirst Bluegrass location in the Southland neighborhood as well as The MET mixed-use building where the second HealthFirst Bluegrass clinic is located. The clinic brings much needed primary and pediatric care, women's care, behavioral health, dentistry, and pharmacy services in a walkable location to serve the community surrounding. It was important to the client that natural light be prioritized for both patients and staff. Because of this, corridors and main exam rooms were located along exterior window walls. The nurse's hub is centrally located at a large window. One-way film was applied at the pharmacy windows to allow staff views out and light to filer back into the space, while keeping views of the pharmacy obscured from the exterior. The effects of biophilia, access to nature, and daylight are known to lower stress levels and promote healing, meaning it was critical to the team to incorporate these elements whenever possible. Because the new HealthFirst Bluegrass is located in a mixed-use building with apartments above, it was important to make the clinic both recognizable and welcoming to patrons and the community. The entrance utilizes signage facing out to the street as well as warm and friendly materials to invite people in. Material selections include deep blues and greens, warm wood, and natural concrete to create a more comfor4ting, mature, and engaging environment. Exam rooms feature a colored accent strip to aid in wayfinding and quickly visually identify exam rooms.
