The new Center for the Arts will help foster creativity, critical thinking, cultural competency, and community engagement.
This 51,000 SF single-story facility, designed to LEED Silver criteria, provides students with a first-rate gallery, studio, and performance space at the University of Dayton. The departments which will be housed in the building include Theatre, Dance, Television and Radio, and Media Production. Galleries and public spaces are also included to facilitate collaboration among departments across campus as well as to advance collaborative partnerships with community arts organizations. These organizations range from professional companies such as the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, to organizations who serve school children such as the K12 Gallery. The design team has been actively involved in fundraising activities and construction will be underway soon on this wonderful addition to not only the campus of UD, but also to the entire Dayton community.
Since 2013, Fitz Hall has been the home for the Music Department, Art and Design Department, and Theatre program at the University of Dayton. Existing spaces include departmental and faculty offices, classrooms, computer labs, studios, rehearsal rooms, and a black-box theatre.
